Prof. Christina TSAI

Dr. Christina TSAI is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at NTU Taiwan University, Taiwan. She received her Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and two M.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining NTU, she was a tenured faculty member in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Tsai pioneered the field of stochastic sediment transport dynamics by combining stochastic theory with fluid mechanics to establish a mechanistic framework for sediment transport in turbulent flows. Her recent work also addresses hydrometeorological extremes, with applications to probabilistic prediction and climate resilience. Her research has been supported by competitive grants from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), and the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Tsai is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, two NSTC Outstanding Research Awards, the ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering Best Associate Editor Award, and the ASCE Best Technical Paper Award. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies (Elsevier), holds leadership positions in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and has served on review panels for NSF, the European Science Foundation, and NSTC. Her research, editorial leadership, and mentorship continue to advance interdisciplinary water science and engineering worldwide.
