Prof. Kumiko Oguma

Professor, Department of Urban Engineering

The University of Tokyo

Professor Kumiko Oguma received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1998, 2000 and 2003, respectively. She is specialized in water-related environmental issues including water quality monitoring, water treatment technologies and water supply systems. Her challenges include the improvement of access to safe water in low-middle income countries and remote locations, in the context of SDG6 on water and sanitation. She has been leading several field demonstration projects of UV-LED reactors for decentralized water disinfection systems, some of which have successfully resulted in the implementation of technology to secure safe water supply to the community. She is the Vice President of International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) and the member of International Water Association (IWA), Japan Society on Water Environment (JSWE), and Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).
