Prof. ZHANG Qian is the Tencent Professor of Engineering, and a Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). She serves as the Head of the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD). Prof. Zhang earned her PhD from Wuhan University and worked at Microsoft Research Asia before joining HKUST in 2005.
As a distinguished scholar, she focuses her pioneering research on AIoT, smart health, distributed systems, and mobile networking. Her impactful contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2024 RGC Senior Research Fellow Award, multiple IEEE/ACM Best Paper Awards, and prestigious fellowships in both the IEEE and the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering. Under the RGC 2026/27 Strategic Topics Grant, she leads a pioneering project developing a personalized multimodal AI platform for Parkinson's disease management in aging populations.
Additionally, Prof. Zhang directs the Digital Life Research Center and co-directs the HKUST-Huawei Joint Laboratory.
Prof. Zhang joined the Rising Stars Women in Engineering Workshop in 2018 as a panelist.
