Prof. CHAN Kuei-Yuan

Dr. CHAN Kuei-Yuan is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at NTU Taiwan University, with joint appointments in the Graduate Institute of Industrial Engineering and the Bachelor Program in Innovation and Design. His research focuses on engineering design, uncertainty modeling, optimization, and the analysis of complex engineering systems, with applications ranging from energy systems and robotics to autonomous vehicles.

Beyond his research, Prof. Chan has been deeply engaged in engineering education reform. He developed and led the transformation of the capstone design curriculum in NTU Mechanical Engineering and was a founding member of the Stanley Wang D-School@NTU, where he helped promote interdisciplinary, project-based learning and design thinking across the university.

For the past eight years, Prof. Chan has chaired Taiwan’s national New Engineering Education Method Experiment and Construction (NEEMEC) Project, an initiative supported by the Ministry of Education to rethink how engineering students are trained. Rather than adding more courses, NEEMEC focuses on reconnecting existing courses through theme-based course clusters, hands-on projects, and interdisciplinary learning, enabling universities to achieve meaningful curriculum reform with manageable changes to existing structures.

Prof. Chan received his B.S. from National Tsing Hua University and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. Before entering academia, he worked at the Center for Automotive Research and Ford Motor Company in the United States. He has received numerous awards for both teaching and research and has remained committed to bridging engineering theory, practice, and education throughout his career.
