Dr. Danni Zhong

postdoctoral research fellow

National University of Singapore

Dr. Danni Zhong is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Her research lies at the intersection of biomaterials science and translational medicine, focusing on multifunctional bioactive materials, advanced drug delivery systems, biomedical imaging, and therapeutic engineering. She is particularly interested in using natural biomaterials, especially microalgae, to develop sustainable therapeutic platforms that address major health challenges such as cancer, inflammation, gastrointestinal disorders, and aging-related diseases.

Dr. Zhong has developed innovative microalgae-based hydrogels, microneedles, and biohybrid microrobots that modulate tumor microenvironments, promote wound regeneration, and regulate the gut-brain axis. To date, she has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals including Nature Communications, Science Advances, Advanced Materials, Cell Biomaterials, and Chem, with over 3,300 citations and an h-index of 29. Her long-term vision is to connect materials innovation with translational medicine to create sustainable healthcare solutions for aging populations and chronic disease management.
