Dr. Liyan Li
Research Engineer
National University of Singapore
Li Liyan is a dedicated researcher in Environmental Engineering, specializing in microbiological water quality assessment, bacterial viability testing, and environmental monitoring technologies. She completed both her MSc and PhD in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Singapore. Her research focuses on developing innovative molecular methods for detecting microbial indicators, employing DNA-intercalating dyes in viability PCR to enhance water and food safety, and designing advanced portable PCR platforms for smartphone-based bacterial detection. Leveraging PCR-based technologies, she has successfully utilized quantitative PCR and droplet digital PCR alongside viability assays to detect Salmonella strains and assess diverse bacterial physiological states. Her expertise lies in enhancing the accuracy and reliability of bacterial detection methods for environmental and public health applications.
