2024 INSTITUTIONAL PARTICIPANTS

Dr. Satoko Toyama

Assistant Professor

The University of Tokyo

Satoko Toyama received her Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Tokyo, where she was honored with the Dean’s Award for outstanding Ph.D. research in 2023. She joined the Institute of Engineering Innovation at the University of Tokyo as a project assistant professor and is now an assistant professor. Her research focuses on advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy, particularly electromagnetic field imaging at ultra-high spatial resolutions. Atomic-scale local electromagnetic fields are believed to determine material properties in areas such as electronics, spintronics, batteries, and catalysts. Her goal is to uncover the fundamental mechanisms governing material functionalities through such local electromagnetic field imaging.
