Dr. Yanyan Cheng
Research Scientist
Centre for Climate Research Singapore
My research encompasses hydrology and next-generation Earth system modeling, particularly focusing on climate-land-water-carbon dynamics. Notable contributions include insights into carbon-hydrology, land-atmosphere, and human-Earth system interactions. Through my work, I have advanced our understanding of water, carbon, and energy cycle dynamics in response to climate and land use/land cover changes across various scales. For example, my investigations into land-based mitigation strategies for achieving 2°C climate targets offer valuable insights for strategic land-use planning and policy decisions, crucial for optimizing regional and global mitigation efforts. My research findings have garnered attention, having been featured in both The Straits Times and NUS News.
In addition to leading over ten projects and collaborating with more than ten multidisciplinary teams, I have demonstrated strong leadership and collaboration skills. My commitment to excellence is evident in my publication record, boasting 22 peer-reviewed papers, including 11 as the first author, published in prestigious journals such as Science Advances and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) of the United States of America.
Furthermore, I actively contribute to the scientific community by serving as a session convener at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and as a reviewer for more than ten esteemed journals in the engineering field.
