2024 SHORTLISTED PARTICIPANTS

Dr. Tsai-Hsuan Chen

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

National Taiwan University

Dr. Chen's research endeavors are focused on advancing membrane and electrochemical separation technologies to address critical environmental challenges. Her work encompasses two primary areas: advancing electrochemical separation technologies and tailoring water treatment solutions for environmental applications. In the realm of electrochemical separation, she conducts research on membrane capacitive deionization and electrodialysis, focusing on fundamental studies of mass transfer and chemical reactions in nanoengineered materials. She explores simulation and optimization of multiphase reactors to enhance efficiency. Dr. Chen has also been involved in projects focused on pilot-scale demonstrations of electrochemical technology for domestic wastewater reclamation in Taiwan.

Additionally, her research aims to drive advancements in environmental technologies such as membrane distillation, redox-flow batteries, and selective membranes for resource enrichment. Dr. Chen focuses on implementing tailored water treatment solutions for wastewater reclamation and resource recovery, utilizing membrane distillation for recovering clean water and valuable resources. She investigates redox-flow batteries for efficient ion separation and energy-efficient water purification and develops selective membranes for enriching resources, such as lithium-selective membranes and metal-organic frameworks-based membranes for strategic metal recovery. Dr. Chen integrates simulation and life cycle assessments to ensure practical implementation, striving for a sustainable future characterized by green recovery for value-added resources, zero-carbon energy storage, and transformative processes for environmental sustainability.

Through this multidimensional approach, Dr. Chen aims to contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable future, aligning with the imperative for net-zero emissions and comprehensive environmental stewardship.
