APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Eligibility of Applicants

Applicants for the Workshop must be:
  • All women (cis and trans); and
  • Fluent in English; and one of the following
  • Fresh PhD graduates or PhD students close to graduation in engineering-related disciplines; or
  • Postdocs or young researchers with engineering PhD degree; or
  • Young engineers with PhD degree working in industry who are interested in exploring careers in academia

Participants of a previous Asia Deans’ Forum – The Rising Stars Women in Engineering Workshop are not eligible to apply again.

Selection Criteria

The Selection Committee, comprised of the Members of Executive Committee and Organizing Committee of the Workshop, will consider the suitability of the applicant based on one or more of the following criteria:
  • Academic excellence
  • Research excellence
  • Leadership demonstration
  • Community engagement

Selection Procedures

  • The Selection Committee will evaluate the applications based on the information submitted by the applicants through the online application system.
  • Invitations for a Zoom interview will be emailed to shortlisted applicants.
  • The Secretariat may contact the referees and verify the submitted information if necessary.
  • Successful applicants will receive a notification letter by email and will be invited to confirm attendance by returning a signed agreement and paying a deposit of USD200 by the deadline stated in the letter. The deposit will be refunded after attending the Workshop.
  • The Secretariat would liaise with the confirmed applicants regarding the arrangement for local accommodation (including a 3-night complimentary stay) and partial support for transportation fees paid for selected applicants.

Application Procedures

  • To begin your application, create a new account by providing your first name, last name, email address and password.
  • Activate your account by clicking the link provided in the automatically generated confirmation email.
  • Complete the application by filling in the required information and upload the required supplementary documents through the online application system, and submit by the application deadline. No changes can be made after the deadline.
  • Applicants can save the information and retrieve or delete an incomplete application in the online application system. Once submitted, applicants have 72 hours but at most up to the submission deadline to make additional changes.
  • Document screening will begin immediately after the application deadline. As a result, any recommendation letters that are received after the deadline may not be counted together with that application. We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible, and contact the professor(s) from whom you plan to request a letter of recommendation so they can prepare and send it as soon as your application is submitted.

Information for Shortlisted Participants

  • Shortlisted participants will be invited to display an A1 poster, do a 90-second elevator pitch and attend the sessions of the Workshop.
  • Full attendance for all activities is required.
  • Each shortlisted participant will be offered local accommodation near the campus (including a 3-night complimentary stay) and partial support for transportation fees.
  • Shortlisted participants are responsible for arranging and buying their own flight tickets and local transportation from airport to hotel and vice versa.
  • Shortlisted participants will need to agree to the Terms and Conditions as set out by the Executive Committee on acceptance of their offer.
  • The amount of support for mobility costs may vary based on the applicant's location, as stated as below for reference:

    *Equivalent will be remitted. Amount subject to change depending on the exchange rate at the time of remittance.

Remarks:

The Organizers reserve the right of final decision on the amount of support for mobility costs for each shortlisted participant.
