Prof Madoka Takai

Prof Madoka Takai is currently a Professor of the Department of Bioengineering at The University of Tokyo, a position that she has held since 2011. She received her PhD in Applied Chemistry from the School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, Waseda University in 1999, and worked for the Toshiba Corporation from 1990 to 1991. She was also a Research Fellow working on the "Plasma chemistry for amorphous silicon solar cell" from 1999 to 2000 at the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). In 2001, Prof Takai moved to the Department of Materials Engineering at The University of Tokyo as a Research Associate, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003. Her research interests include the basic interface science between biomolecules of cells and materials, and the development of nanomaterials for biomedical devices, such as implanted artificial organ, biosensor and microfluidics devices. She received the Research Achievement Award for Female Researcher thanks to "leading research in biosensor and novel biomaterials" from the Japan Society of Applied Physics in 2012.
